Review and Giveaway: Daughter of Isis by Kelsey Ketch (Descendants of Isis #1)

Daughter of Isis (Descendants of Isis, #1)

Daughter of Isis (Descendants of Isis #1)

by
“Her mouth parted slightly, waiting for Seth to breathe life into her own body, just like in the story. She wanted him to awaken her senses.”

Their worlds collide in California’s high desert.

The last thing Natara “Natti” Stone wants to do is to start anew at Setemple High School. She wished she had never left London. Yet the brutal murder of her maternal grandmother has made her life very complicated. The only clue related to her murder is an ancient, encrypted necklace Natti discovered after her grandmother’s death. And if trying to adjust to American life is not enough, Natti is being stalked by a mysterious, charming high school senior, Seth O’Keefe, who is annoyingly persistent in his attempts at seduction.

Seth O’Keefe is secretly a member of the Sons of Set, an order that worships the Egyptian god of chaos. Seth’s blessing from Set, his “charm,” never failed, except with one person: Natti Stone. Her ability to elude him infatuates and infuriates him, and he becomes obsessed with the chase. But the closer he gets to her, the more his emotions take a dangerous turn, and he risks breaking one of the most valued covenants of his order. The punishment for which is a fate worse than death.

The adventure this unlikely couple becomes engulfed in could cost them their lives and their souls.

So, the last book I ever read that had pretty much anything to do with Egyptian mythology was Astarte`s Wrath by Trisha Wolfe. Loved that book, thought I would give the genre (ie. Egyptian Mythology) another try.
Its no secret that Im a mythology fan, and I always try to delve into as much as I can. Im pretty new to Egyptian though, so of course I read any book like this that I can.
Daughter of Isis isn’t one of those books where its romance or something and you just see bits and pieces of the mythology. Its like half mythology and the rest is romance, mystery, and horror. I was sucked into this book like there was no tomorrow. I would have finished it in a day if I had realized I only had like 10 pages to go, but I decided that I would leave some for the next day.
Cant tell whether it was a good decision or not, but man Im mad at the ending! While it didn’t leave me unsatisfied, it also made me very frustrated BECAUSE I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! But I think I will wait until the next book –sigh-.

Im loving how each individual character is their own person. Even the secondary characters have spunk. Theirs Natti, our unwitting heroine, whos tough, sexy, and not afraid to say whats on her mind. Her mother`s side comes from Egypt, so it makes the mythology bits a little better because she’s not freaking clueless like most characters in other books are.
Seth, omg, seth. And that’s not a good OMG. While I get the reasons he acts the way he does, it still annoys the crap out of me. And Natti contemplating love with this guy? I wouldn’t love someone who I walked in on (TWICE) and who sleeps through half the school. I will admit, I soften a bit towards him at the end, and I do look forward to seeing how he changes in the next book, but I enjoyed it every time Natti refused him and challenged him.
Tough girls rule!

Anywhoo, this book has about everything. Magic, mayhem, Cats, witty female leads, a sinister villain and a plot that will leave you on the edge of your seat! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I look forward to more installments and more books from this author. I totally recommend it to anyone looking for a good read! A little warning though, its UPPER YA. Warned ya.

I rated this book a 4 on Goodreads, but its more of a 4.5
