Valentines Books With Love Blog Hop! Guest Post by Reena Jacobs

Beyond Happily Ever After

Like many, I look forward to happily ever afters. I read romance after romance, knowing every book ends the same – the gal gets the guy in the end. As predictable as a romance novel is, I've yet to grow tired of them.
In a way, it brings me back to the relationship with my husband... loving him, breaking up, getting together again, rinse and repeat until eventually I found myself in the whirlwind of planning a wedding in the hopes of my own happily ever after.
Like a romance novel, my big day arrived. I reached my happily ever after. Then what?
Funny. The romance novels never goes deep into the happily ever after. It's almost as if the couple reaches a pivotal moment where they realize this is it, “we're going to be together FOREVER!” But the “after” is speculation. The only thing for certain is they're happy... forever after. At least that's the impression.
Enter my happily ever after. Here I am years later, married with children and the wedding so long ago, I have to pull out pictures to remember the momentous occasion.
Could it be the happily ever after is dull? The adventure is over?
For me, Valentines is a reminder I'm living my happily ever after. The story didn't end at “and they lived happily ever after.” There's so much more. My marriage isn't perfect, and at times may even resemble the rockiness of a romance novel. :) Yet beyond the happily ever after is the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of my husband and the chance to fall in love all over again.
I revisit Control Freak from time to time and see the love rekindling in Brandon's and Regina's marriage. They have their ups and downs, plenty of misunderstandings, yet the love doesn't fade. They reconnect through their trials.
I love romances—the idea of two worlds colliding to form a loving relationship which ends in happily ever after. Other times, it's wonderful to read stories which go beyond the initial romance... to know the happily ever after can be full of excitement... a new adventure.
For this Valentines, share with us the books you've read which celebrate the happily ever after.

All time favorite is tough because I love so many of them. I'll have to go with the most recent which is Heart Surgeon, Her...Husband? by Susan Carlisle. Heartbreaking but awesome ending. :)
