No Apologies
by Sybil Bartel (Goodreads Author)Never apologize
Hard-edged rocker Graham Allen has it all. He's flush with cash from playing bass in a band by night and restoring classic cars by day. And there are plenty of women willing to share his bed for a night, complication-free. Perfect, because if there's anything he learned from his past, it was to never get attached—to anything. So when bartender Carly Sullivan flashes her innocent smile, Graham isn't prepared for what happens next.
Never fall in love
Two rules, that's all Graham has—never apologize and never fall in love. He knows Carly is everything he should avoid. Cheerful and sweet, she has "relationship" written all over her. But Graham can't stay away from her probing questions and concerned blue eyes.
When Graham discovers Carly is hiding a crushing secret, he's prepared to risk it all. Until in one single moment, everything changes and Graham's past threatens to collide with his future. His life is crumbling down around him, and soon no apology in the world can save him.
He should've known to walk away.
I think I just found a new favorite author! And book. Wowzers. No Apologies was just... awesome.
I didnt think that I would love it so much, especially considering it was in first person POV, and in Graham`s POV. But, as I read, I didnt even care any more. It wasnt until after about half the book that I wished it wasnt in first person, simply because I wanted to know what other people thought about Graham and his actions.
Graham is a MESS. Sometimes I found myself wishing I could teleport inside a book and just punch him in the face, because he was an asshole. A lot. But he also had issues that made me wish I could teleport in there simply to coddle him.
Right away you could tell he was an ass with a huge crush on a girl he barely knew, and I loved how witty he was, with hints of such tenderness you just keep going back for more. Graham has issues with his past that he just cant seem to get past, no matter how much he tries. He is brutally honest most of the time, but man, he cant keep it in his pants.
I loved Carly, though she was a little too much sunshine for me. In addition to battling his own scars, Graham has to help her through hers, too. They want each other, but when they hang out it usually ends in a fight.
One thing I loved about this book was that it wasn't really about Graham and Carly`s relationship. While that was part of the book, the main part was Graham letting go of his past and healing scars, and trying to cope with being in love and changing his ways.
There were so many curve balls in this story, too. It left me guessing, and when you read as much as I do, you want that. The ending wasn't all that perfect, but man oh man was the roller coaster ride of a journey entertaining and heartbreaking all in itself and absolutely made up for that.
This book will suck you in, that I'm sure about. I was so absorbed with this book that I didn't want to put it down to sleep. Im almost certain that Im going to read more Sybil Bartel books, and maybe even re-read this one. I totally recommend it to any of you who are willing to go buy it.
