Review: Dont Blackmail the Vampire (Sons of Kane #2)

Don't Blackmail the Vampire (Sons of Kane, #2)

Don't Blackmail the Vampire (Sons of Kane #2)

by
Rachel Davis will do anything to get her sister out of a bad relationship with her fiancé. Even if it involves a few fibs, a little breaking-and-entering, and blackmailing the fiancé's potential boss, Charles, for his help. So what if the handsome Charles happens to be a vampire?

Charles Wright has found the perfect way to trap the man threatening his brother's wife: cozy up to him, get invited along on the skiing trip, and then search for incriminating evidence. How much better that audacious but gorgeous Rachel is just as eager to nail the bastard. As far as he's concerned, there's nothing wrong with a little blackmail between two consenting adults. Especially when it's time for Rachel to pay up.

So Im a big fan of vampires -- I think about half the population is -- so when I saw this book and even realized that I have read the first book in this series, I was game for it. It sounded so interesting and I couldnt wait to dig in!

But when I finally did... I had a hard time with it. Eventually I just had to give up. Again (and I had this problem with the first book), the main character, Rachel, is sort of ok with the fact that she has met a vampire. Not what you would expect in that meeting. While Im happy that she had her fear about her, it just seemed all wrong.

And again, as with the first book, I wish there was some background. I should have went back and read my review for the first one before I picked up the book because names are being pulled and everything, but Im still left hanging because I dont have a clue about the situation or who the characters, both main and secondary, are.

Rachel`s sister and her sister fiance are mentioned in the second book, but thats basically it. But like I said above, the book looked so interesting, and it was such a good idea. But I couldnt get into it. It didnt stick with me, and Im not sure if its because the format I got it in was ruined when I had to convert it to be able to read it after inquiring about getting the right format to review and getting no response, or if its just the same thing with the first book and my tolerance has lowered since I have read the first book.

But what the hey, everyone has different tastes, so what I dont like, maybe you will? Dont let my review stop you from picking it  up! Might be the best book you have read all year.

I received an ecopy in exchange for an honest review, and it in no way swayed my opinion. Rating is 2 stars.

Im Participating in the.... Vampire Challenge 2014!

2014 Vampire Challenge hosted by Parajunkee.com
This challenge is hosted by Parajunkee, and if you wish to sign up (anyone can!) you can sign up HERE. I don't know what I'm going to read yet, I just know its going to have vampires in it. This should be fun! I don't think I have ever participated in a Parajunkee challenge, so this should be interesting. I think the most trouble I will have will be linking up every month. I always have trouble with that for some reason. It might help that I follow her blog.

What are you challenging yourself to for 2014?

ARC Review: Bound by Night by Larissa Ione (Moonbound Clan Vampire #1)

Bound by Night by Larissa Ione
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Only Larissa Ione books that I have read are the Lord of Deliverance books. The vampires in that series are VERY different from the ones in this series.

In this world that Larissa Ione created, vampires are known to the humans - and slaves! Or on the run and in hiding. Anywhoo, this book revolves around Nicole, a human whose family is the leading manufacturers in everything, well, anti vampires, and Riker, a vampire who hates humans because they killed his mate.

I will say, it wasn't at all what I was expecting (especially because I was used to the OTHER type of vampires that she had introduced us to), and at times it was boring. But for an introduction into this world, it wasn't that bad.

Blitz: Vampire Elite: Prophecy by Irina Argo

Vampire Elite
Prophecy
Irina Argo

Genre: paranormal

Release Date: 6/7/13

Book Description:

How can you make a choice between saving your people and destroying the one you love?

A millennia-long war between two immortal races is about to come to an end. Long ago, the Vampire Elite began capturing members of another race of immortal beings, the Amiti, forcing them to become their blood suppliers—bloodstock—and locking them in underground cells, where they are treated like livestock. Now, the few remaining free Amiti are making a final attempt to strike back. The Queen of the Amiti has been proclaimed a traitor and executed. Her death makes possible the rise of a new Queen, her young daughter Arianna, who becomes the last hope of her dying race.

Arianna totally embraces her mission and is ready to fight for her people to the last drop of her blood but encounters an unexpected challenge—the vampire King Tor. The Amiti Queen and the King of the vampires are drawn into a trap of love where each has to make the ultimate choice: to kill their loved one or risk the extermination of their people.

Vampire Elite is an epic story of a bitter conflict between two peoples, and the effect of that conflict on everyone living in its grip. The characters are driven to love and betrayal, vengeance and sacrifice in a world without easy black-and-white answers.

Based on an ancient Egyptian legend, packed with action and intrigue, Vampire Elite will pull you into the entrancing world of immortals and open new portals into their hidden universe.

The first two books “Vampire Elite: Prophecy” and “Keepers of the Key” will be released as a bundle in June .

The story is too dynamic to end at the conclusion of Book 1.

At the same time it is too long for one book (600+ pages).

The authors will give the second book to the readers for free.

***Excerpt***
As the auctioneer spoke, two Sekhmi in eveningwear—a male carrying an elegant dagger and a female a silver tray covered with glass vials—approached the Amiti girl.
“She’s barely eighteen, ladies and gentlemen. That’s a good three years younger than the youngest bloodstock you’ll usually come across. Look at her; she’s stunning, simply stunning, and as you can see, we’ve kept her well conditioned, in excellent health.”
The auctioneer paused as the male Hunter grasped the Amiti’s hand and held it above the tray. The girl showed no resistance, her only display of anxiety the butterfly fluttering of her thick eyelashes. He raised his other hand, and the dagger flashed in the light as with a swift motion he slit the Amiti’s palm. The dark, intoxicating scent of fresh blood filled the room as it poured into the vials.
Simone’s gums began to itch and burn, and she covered her mouth with her hand so no one would see her fangs punching down. It was considered terribly rude to expose one’s fangs in public, even among other vampires. But she needn’t have worried; everyone’s attention was riveted to the stage and the blood flowing from the girl’s wound. The room vibrated with bloodlust and sexual arousal.
The female Sekhmi approached Simone’s table, offering the Royal Pride the first of the blood samples. Knowing that all eyes were on her, Simone forced herself not to hesitate and took a small sip—and was immediately flooded with euphoria.
“For this magnificent specimen, we open the bidding at ten million U.S. dollars,” announced the auctioneer.
